GRÁFICA INSURGENTE //

A study of the feminist alternative press of Brazil and Portugal (1975–1985), in which illustration and editorial design don’t package feminist politics — they are the political practice. The project begins from the asymmetry between women illustrators who signed their work and vanished from the archive all the same, and treats the archive’s silence as historical evidence rather than a gap. Its method is an atlas after Warburg’s Mnemosyne: arranging the dispersed graphic material into constellations and mapping the forms that migrate across publications and across the two countries. Research that thinks by drawing — the cartography and the atlas realised as illustration and editorial design.

O ato de criar é político? — Is the act of creating political?
Exhibition of master’s research · FBAUP, 2026

This exhibition gathers the visual research behind my master’s dissertation (Illustration, Edition and Print, FBAUP) into an atlas, a zine, and a series of collective experiments. The research compares the feminist presses of Brazil and Portugal between 1975 and 1985 — the UN’s International Women’s Decade — surfacing women illustrators left at the margins of both design histories. Under the title Gráfica Insurgente, a lab modelled on Warburg’s Mnemosyne Atlas, two workshops rebuilt the precarious means of late-twentieth-century marginal print: working collectively from pre-selected images, participants composed collage “fusion panels” that map the distance between the two countries and the shared feminist, revolutionary language that binds them. Its wager is that collective making is itself political — unpredictable, shared, belonging to everyone and to no one. The artistic dimension of the research reveals itself there, in the noise of the process: ideas abandoned, paper and scissors on the floor.
